  • Adult members may register up to 3 children under their membership account.

This course aims to give you an introduction to planning and navigating with the use of a map and a compass.  We will meet at Elk Island national park - Astotin Lake (national park pass  required for entry). Part of the course will be spent navigating on land and on the water. 

We will review:

route planning 

Topo Maps

Map reading

use of a compass to take bearings from a map

Orientating yourself on a map

Re-orientate yourself if you get lost . 


Participants are expected to have a compass. 

Recommended Compass - Silva mirror compass with declination built into it , a regular compass will also do.

Participants are expected to bring their own boats
