This is the first (Part 1)  of a series of safety courses meant to provide the participant with key safety and rescue knowledge and skills to enable them to ensure the safety of themselves and others and to provide them with appropriate rescue skills which can be used to help themselves and others in difficulty.

The course is designed for canoeists and kayakers.

Prerequisites  

1. Minimum age of 15 years 

2. Basic first aid recommended but not required

The following topics will be covered 

Boat setup for safety

Rope

Knife

Risks 

Risk management 

Water and environmental hazards 

Signals 

Entrapment situations 

Swimming in whitewater and currents 

Accessing river hazards

Rescue techniques (boat based, throw bags, basic rope work, etc)

What should I bring : 

Note book 

Throw Bag - we will practice a bit.
