Style Paddling Clinic (functional) - basic outline
registration opens July 12, registration is open to the Public/non-CCC members
Participants: will need to be comfortable with solo paddling skills such as the "J" & "C" strokes, various draws, rudders, prys, and basic braces.
Canoe: small tandem (15-17'), some rocker, shallow arch. If people want to work with more dedicated solo boats or play boats that changes the process so we do need advance notice on the boat you plan to bring. It helps if people attending are using similar boats. RPPC canoes have been booked for this course.
Outcome: Improved solo precision paddling and boat control. An understanding of boat control through adjustment of weighting.
- Introduction - what is style paddling. weighting, outcomes. Welsh Plank will be available
- Basis skill check - starting, stopping forward/reverse, side displacement - some fine tuning.
- Boat control through pivots, turns, running side displacement
- CLR determination (why knowing the Centre of Lateral Resistance is useful)
- Weighted turns & landings (no paddle boat control)
- Some fun stuff - magic paddles (no hands), one handed manoeuvres, bow pivots, off-set circles
- Depending on interest some synchronized paddling
